anasthesia_detoxHello, my name is doctor Ricardo Mozgovoy. I work as an anesthesiologist in Dr Vorobiev clinic in Belgrade, Serbia. Often to our clinic come patients who have addiction to several opiates such as heroin, methadone, buprenophrine.

For several years these people have addiction to  opioides. For them it’s very difficult to quit drugs because of the withdrawal syndrome and because of the pain they suffered during this syndrome. In our clinic, we have several methods to help these patients such as classic detox were we use combination of painkillers, psychostabilizators and anticraving medication. Also, all of our patients receive special infusions to help them rehydrate their organism.

One of the modern methods we use in our clinic is plasmapheresis. This is a method that helps us to clean the patient’s blood with the help of the special membrane that separates toxins and drug residuals from the patient’s blood. But to me as an anesthesiologist  the best method to help these patients is ultra rapid opioid detoxification. This is a method created in the late 1980 in the USA by Dr Weismann. During this procedure the patient is under total anesthesia, under control of our medical staff. This anesthesia is completely safe and controlled and therefore painless. We use the world’s newest equipment in our clinic and also the best existing medication.

We use special medication that helps the patients to go through this withdrawal syndrome with no pain. Anesthesia lasts for about six hours. During this procedure we give the patients special anti withdrawal medication, antagonists of the opioid receptors. At the end of this procedure, the patient is clean from opioids, from drugs, and during the whole procedure, the vital signs of the patient are checked by our medical staff, so this procedure, i repeat, is completely safe and painless.
